Genesis 3:16BSB
To the woman He said: "I will sharply increase your pain in childbirth; in pain you will bring forth children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."
Paul's declaration that women "will be saved through childbearing" (dia tēs teknogonias) alludes to Genesis 3:16, where God declares that the woman will bear children in pain — a consequence of the fall. The TSK directly connects these verses. Paul's statement reverses the curse logic: what was pronounced as judgment (painful childbearing) becomes a sphere of salvation. This also resonates with the protoevangelium of Genesis 3:15, where it is through the woman's seed that the serpent is ultimately defeated. The "childbearing" may thus carry a double reference — both to the faithful vocation of motherhood and to the particular Child (Christ) born of woman (Gal 4:4) through whom salvation comes. The allusion traces a longitudinal theme from curse to redemption through the woman's seed.
