Earlier text
Vengeance is Mine; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; for their day of disaster is near, and their doom is coming quickly." For the LORD will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants when He sees that their strength is gone and no one remains, slave or free.
Reinforces warning with two parts of Deut. 32 joined by "and again." God's vengeance is certain. Though 32:36 could mean vindication, in this context means judgment (followed by "fearful to fall into hands of living God" 10:31). Eschatological judgment awaits apostates. The Song of Moses context (covenant rebellion bringing judgment) fits the warning's logic. God who judges his people will not overlook apostasy—falling into the living God's hands for judgment is terrifying.
