Exodus 12:10BSB
Do not leave any of it until morning; before the morning you must burn up any part that is left over.
Exodus 12:10 commands that none of the Passover lamb shall remain until morning: "You must not leave any of it until morning; whatever remains until morning you shall burn with fire." Numbers 9:1-14 reiterates the entire Passover observance for the second year in the wilderness, explicitly requiring compliance with "all its statutes and all its ordinances" -- which includes the Exodus 12:10 provision against leftovers. The Numbers passage demonstrates the first post-Exodus Passover celebration, confirming that the Exodus legislation was not a one-time emergency measure but a binding annual observance with all its original stipulations intact. Observed already in the wilderness before any entry into Canaan, the feast proves constitutive of Israel's identity as a redeemed people, not contingent on possessing the land.
