Behold, I have given to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work they do, the service of the Tent of Meeting.
Significance
Numbers 18:21 assigns all tithes (מַעֲשֵׂר, ma'aser) to the Levites as their inheritance in exchange for tabernacle service. Deuteronomy 14:22 legislates tithing with a different emphasis: "You must be sure to set aside a tenth of all the produce brought forth each year from your fields." While Numbers directs the tithe to Levitical support, Deuteronomy adds a celebratory dimension -- the tithe is eaten in God's presence at the central sanctuary as an act of joyful worship. Deuteronomy also adds provision for the third-year tithe to be shared with the Levite, the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow (Deut 14:28-29), expanding the tithe's beneficiaries beyond the purely cultic sphere.

Connection Method(s)
Longitudinal Theme — two complementary stations of the developing tithe institution: Numbers 18:21 assigns the tenth to the Levites as their inheritance-wage for Tent service, while Deuteronomy 14:22 directs it to a feast of joyful fear before the LORD with the Levite still not neglected (Deut 14:27) — one consecrated-tenth theme, cultic funding and covenant celebration, running through the canon from Abraham's tenth to Melchizedek (Gen 14:20) onward.
