Now when Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been anointed king in his father's place, he sent envoys to Solomon; for Hiram had always been a friend of David. And Solomon relayed this message to Hiram: "As you are well aware, due to the wars waged on all sides against my father David, he could not build a house for the Name of the LORD his God until the LORD had put his enemies under his feet. But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or crisis. So behold, I plan to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God, according to what the LORD said to my father David: 'I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the house for My Name.'

and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD declares to you that He Himself will establish a house for you. And when your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. He will build a house for My Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

Significance

2 Samuel 7:11-13 contains the core of the Davidic covenant: God will build David a "house" (dynasty), raise up his seed (זֶרַע, zera'), and that descendant "will build a house for My Name." 1 Kings 5:1-5 records Solomon's direct fulfillment: he tells Hiram of Tyre that he intends to build the temple because "the LORD said to my father David: 'I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the house for My Name.'" Solomon explicitly quotes the Nathan oracle, making his temple project a conscious act of covenant fulfillment. The promise-fulfillment arc is unmistakable: the same divine speech that established the dynasty also designated the temple builder, binding kingship and temple together as twin expressions of God's covenantal purpose.
