The sons of Abraham were Isaac and Ishmael. These are their genealogies: Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael. The sons born to Keturah, Abraham's concubine: Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. The sons of Jokshan: Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Midian: Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All of these were Keturah's sons.
This is the account of Abraham's son Ishmael, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's maidservant, bore to Abraham. These are the names of the sons of Ishmael in the order of their birth: Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael, and these were their names by their villages and encampments—twelve princes of their tribes. Ishmael lived a total of 137 years. Then he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people. Ishmael's descendants settled from Havilah to Shur, which is near the border of Egypt as you go toward Asshur. And they lived in hostility toward all their brothers.
Significance
The Chronicler reproduces Ishmael's twelve sons and Keturah's descendants from Genesis 25:12-18, listing the non-elect branches of Abraham's family before narrowing the focus to Isaac and Jacob. Genesis 25 frames Ishmael's genealogy with the note that he fathered "twelve princes of their tribes" (נְשִׂיאִם, nesi'im), indicating fulfilled blessing (Gen 17:20). The Chronicler's inclusion of these collateral lines demonstrates that while God's covenant purposes run through Isaac, Abraham's broader family also received divine blessing as promised. The Chronicler's compression particularly drops Ishmael's lifespan and territorial notices (Gen 25:17-18), sharpening the focus to lineage alone.

Redemptive-Historical Progression — the Chronicler re-registers Genesis 25's Ishmaelite and Keturahite lines, honorably recording the blessed-but-non-elect branches (cf. Gen 17:20) before the story narrows to Isaac and Jacob; his compression to lineage alone serves the forward march of the covenant line toward David.
