Earlier text
Then he distributed to every man and woman among the multitude of Israel a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake. And all the people departed, each for his own home. As soon as David returned home to bless his own household, Saul's daughter Michal came out to meet him. "How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today!" she said. "He has uncovered himself today in the sight of the maidservants of his subjects, like a vulgar person would do."
2 Samuel 6:19-20 describes David distributing food to the assembly, the people departing, and David returning to bless his household — only to be met by Michal's scorn for his public dancing. 1 Chronicles 16:43 compresses this to a single verse: "Then all the people departed for their homes, and David returned home to bless his household." The Chronicler follows Samuel's text verbatim for the dismissal formula but eliminates the Michal confrontation that dominates the Samuel account. Between these parallel conclusions, the Chronicler inserts the appointment of Asaph and his associates for ongoing worship ministry (1 Chr 16:4-42), including the great psalm of thanksgiving (1 Chr 16:8-36). This restructuring makes worship institutions, rather than domestic conflict, the enduring legacy of the ark's arrival.
