2 Kings 8:25BSB
In the twelfth year of the reign of Joram son of Ahab over Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram became king of Judah.
Both texts introduce Ahaziah of Judah's brief reign. Kings says he was 22 years old at accession; Chronicles says 42 — a well-known numerical discrepancy likely due to a scribal error. Both agree on his mother Athaliah (granddaughter of Omri), his evil conduct, and his alliance with Joram of Israel. The Chronicler adds the crucial theological note: "his mother was his counselor in wickedness" (2 Chr 22:3), and "he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as the house of Ahab had done, for to his destruction they were his counselors after the death of his father" (2 Chr 22:4) — making Athaliah's influence the explicit cause of his apostasy.
