In the second year of the reign of Pekah son of Remaliah over Israel, Jotham son of Uzziah became king of Judah.
Significance
Both texts introduce Jotham's reign with the standard regnal formula: age 25, 16-year reign, mother Jerusha. Both give the positive evaluation: "he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD." Kings adds the qualification "the high places were not taken away" (2 Kgs 15:35), while Chronicles notes "he did not enter the temple of the LORD" (2 Chr 27:2) — a pointed reference to his father Uzziah's disastrous temple intrusion. Jotham learned from his father's pride: where Uzziah overreached into priestly territory, Jotham maintained proper royal boundaries.

Redemptive-Historical Progression — 2 Chronicles 27:1 re-presents Jotham's regnal introduction from 2 Kings 15:32-33 (twenty-five at accession, sixteen years, mother Jerushah daughter of Zadok), and the Chronicler advances the account with his own note that Jotham "did not enter the temple of the LORD" (2 Chr 27:2) — the later history redefining royal righteousness against Uzziah's intrusion narrated in the previous chapter, as the Davidic line moves forward under God's discipline and preservation.
