Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years. His mother's name was Meshullemeth daughter of Haruz; she was from Jotbah.
Significance
Both texts introduce Amon's brief two-year reign with the standard formula: age 22 at accession. Both record his evil, noting he "did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done" — walking in the idolatrous ways Manasseh had followed. The Chronicler adds a pointed contrast: "he did not humble himself before the LORD as his father Manasseh had done" (2 Chr 33:23). This addition presupposes the Chronicler's unique Manasseh repentance narrative and uses Amon's refusal to repent as the key distinction — Amon had his father's sins without his father's eventual humility.

Redemptive-Historical Progression — The Chronicler retells Kings' introduction of Amon with the same regnal data (twenty-two years old, a two-year reign: 2 Kings 21:19 // 2 Chronicles 33:21), re-presenting the earlier account for the post-exilic community and sharpening its lesson with his added evaluation that Amon "did not humble himself before the LORD as his father Manasseh had done" (33:23) — measuring the son by the humbling his own Manasseh narrative had just introduced.
