Allusion

Later text

2 Chronicles 36:10BSB

In the spring, King Nebuchadnezzar summoned Jehoiachin and brought him to Babylon, along with the articles of value from the house of the LORD. And he made Jehoiachin's relative Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.

Earlier text

2 Kings 24:13BSB

As the LORD had declared, Nebuchadnezzar also carried off all the treasures from the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and he cut into pieces all the gold articles that Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD.

Significance

In 2 Kings 24:13, Nebuchadnezzar "carried off all the treasures from the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and he cut into pieces all the gold articles that Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD." The Chronicler in 2 Chronicles 36:10 records that Nebuchadnezzar "brought him to Babylon, along with the articles of value (כְּלֵי חֶמְדָּה, keley chemdah) from the house of the LORD." Both passages narrate the stripping of the temple Solomon had lavished with gold — the reversal of 1 Kings 7's description of the temple furnishings. What Solomon crafted, Nebuchadnezzar carried away, fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy to Hezekiah (2 Kgs 20:17).

Connection Method(s)
Longitudinal Theme — both texts sit on the one temple-vessels thread that spans the canon: the treasures and gold articles "that Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD" are carried off and cut to pieces (2 Kgs 24:13), and the Chronicler notes the articles of value taken to Babylon with Jehoiachin (2 Chr 36:10) — the same developing storyline of the sanctuary's furnishings that begins with their fabrication, passes through Isaiah's warning (2 Kgs 20:17), and ends with Cyrus returning the vessels for the new temple (Ezra 1:7); the theme of God's dwelling-place treasures traces judgment and restoration in miniature.
