The sky over your head will be bronze, and the earth beneath you iron. The LORD will turn the rain of your land into dust and powder; it will descend on you from the sky until you are destroyed.

Significance

Solomon's second petition addresses military defeat "because they have sinned against You" (2 Chr 6:24), directly applying the Deuteronomic covenant curse of Deuteronomy 28:23-24, which threatens that the heavens will become bronze and the earth iron if Israel disobeys. Solomon's prayer assumes the Deuteronomic framework of blessings and curses but adds a remedy: if the defeated people repent, pray, and turn toward the temple, God will forgive and restore them. This petition transforms Deuteronomy's absolute curses into a dynamic of sin-repentance-restoration centered on the temple.
