When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to You in the direction of the city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your Name, then may You hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and may You uphold their cause.
then the LORD your God will choose a dwelling for His Name. And there you are to bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, and all the choice offerings you vow to the LORD.
Significance
Solomon's sixth petition addresses the scenario of Israel going out to battle and praying "toward this city that You have chosen and the house I have built for Your Name" (2 Chr 6:34-35). The directional prayer toward the temple connects to Deuteronomy 12:11's concept of the place God chooses for His Name. Solomon extends the Deuteronomic centralization principle beyond physical presence at the temple to include directional prayer from distant battlefields, establishing the practice of praying toward Jerusalem that became normative in later Judaism (cf. Dan 6:10).
