Exodus 23:20BSB

Behold, I am sending an angel before you to protect you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

Significance

Isaiah 11:15-16 promises a "highway" (מְסִלָּה, mesillah) for the remnant returning from Assyria "as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt," deliberately echoing God's promise in Exodus 23:20 to send an angel "before you to protect you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared." Both passages describe God preparing a path (דֶּרֶךְ, derekh) for His people through hostile territory. Isaiah transforms the first exodus journey into a paradigm for the second: just as God dried the sea and guided Israel through the wilderness with His angel, so He will again split waters and create a highway for the returning exiles.
