I will forever preserve My loving devotion for him, and My covenant with him will stand fast.
Isaiah 55:3 invites Israel to receive "My loving devotion promised to David" (חַסְדֵי דָוִד הַנֶּאֱמָנִים, chasdei David hanne'emanim, lit. the faithful mercies of David) — an "everlasting covenant" (בְּרִית עוֹלָם, berit olam). Psalm 89:28 uses nearly identical language: "I will forever preserve My loving devotion (חַסְדִּי, chasdi) for him, and My covenant with him will stand fast." Both passages ground the Davidic covenant in God's חֶסֶד (chesed, "covenant love/faithfulness"). The crucial development in Isaiah is that the Davidic covenant's benefits, previously concentrated in the royal house, are now democratized — extended to "you" (plural), the people as a whole. The individual king's covenant becomes the nation's inheritance.
