Exodus 20:13BSB
You shall not murder.
Exodus 20:13 prohibits murder (לֹא תִרְצָח, lo tirtsach), and Jeremiah 7:9 catalogues Israel's violations of the Decalogue in his temple sermon: "Will you steal and murder (רָצֹחַ, ratsoach), commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known…?" Jeremiah's list deliberately echoes the sequence and vocabulary of the Ten Commandments, exposing the hypocrisy of those who violate the covenant law and then "come and stand before Me in this house" expecting divine protection. The prophet's indictment transforms the Decalogue from a received code into a prosecutorial instrument—the same commandments given at Sinai become the terms of judgment against the temple community.
