Earlier text
It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way clear. He makes my feet like those of a deer and stations me upon the heights.
Psalm 18:33 declares "He makes my feet like those of a deer and stations me upon the heights" — virtually identical to Habakkuk 3:19: "He makes my feet like those of a deer; He makes me walk upon the heights!" (בָּמוֹתַי, bamotai, "my heights"). The shared imagery of deer-footed surefootedness on heights uses the same Hebrew vocabulary — אַיָּלוֹת (ayalot, "deer"), רַגְלַי (raglai, "my feet"), and בָּמוֹת (bamot, "heights"). David celebrates this as military victory language (Psalm 18 is a royal thanksgiving), while Habakkuk appropriates it as a confession of faith despite devastating circumstances ("though the fig tree does not bud"). The identical metaphor serves military triumph in one context and prophetic faith in another.
