Earlier text
He will teach Your ordinances to Jacob and Your law to Israel; he will set incense before You and whole burnt offerings on Your altar.
Malachi 2:6 describes the ideal Levite as one in whose mouth was "true instruction" (תּוֹרַת אֱמֶת, torath emeth), echoing Moses's blessing on Levi in Deuteronomy 33:10: "He will teach Your ordinances to Jacob and Your law to Israel" (יוֹרוּ מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ... וְתוֹרָתְךָ, yoru mishpatekha... vetoratekha). Both texts define the Levitical vocation as fundamentally a teaching ministry -- not merely performing sacrifices but instructing the people in God's Torah. Malachi's contrast between the ideal Levi who "turned many from iniquity" through faithful teaching and the current priests who have "caused many to stumble" by their instruction (Mal 2:8) demonstrates how far the priesthood has fallen from its Deuteronomic charter.
