Connections

Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme (primary), Promise-Fulfillment, Redemptive-Historical Progression — Genesis 1:28 opens a commission the canon carries forward in developmental iterations (Noah → Abraham → Israel → the prophets → Christ → the church → the new creation) rather than a designed type awaiting an antitype. Christ's Great Commission re-voices its universal scope thematically, not verbally: Matthew reuses none of the Greek commission-verbs the LXX gives Genesis 1:28 (αὐξάνω / πληθύνω / πληρόω / κατακυριεύω). The genuine person-type in this material — Adam as "a pattern of the One to come" (Romans 5:14) — belongs to TT 005 Adam and is not annexed here.

Christological Connection: Christ fulfills Adamic commission perfectly. Where Adam was to "fill the earth," Christ commissions disciples: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19) - filling earth with worshiping image-bearers, not merely biological descendants. Escalation: Adam's commission was biological ("be fruitful and multiply"); Christ's is spiritual (making disciples through gospel). Adam's dominion was over animals and creation; Christ's is "all authority in heaven and on earth" (Matthew 28:18). Adam was to subdue earth through righteous rule; Christ subdues through redemption, creating new humanity. Original commission frustrated by Fall - thorns and thistles (Genesis 3:18), pain in childbearing (3:16), expulsion from garden (3:23-24). Christ reverses curse: through His death/resurrection, He opens way for redeemed humanity to fill earth with God's glory. Isaiah 11:9: "the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea" - commission fulfilled eschatologically. The trajectory moves from physical Eden-expansion → to spiritual gospel-expansion → to cosmic new creation where "the dwelling place of God is with man" (Revelation 21:3) and glorified humanity reigns with Christ forever (Revelation 22:5).
