Significance

Jesus is "new Israel" and "new Bethel"—the place where God is revealed, where heaven and earth meet. Replaces Jacob's vision with greater revelation. Jesus surpasses Jacob/Israel (4:12). Son of Man designation links to Daniel's apocalyptic figure with eschatological authority. Fulfilled in Jesus' signs, ministry, and supremely in crucifixion.
