John 5:27 → Daniel 7:13

In Daniel 7:13-14 the prophet sees "One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven," brought before the Ancient of Days, and "He was given dominion, glory, and kingship," while the heavenly court sits in judgment (7:10, 26). John 5:27 echoes both the figure and the grant: the Father "has given Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man." Here huios anthrōpou (G5207, G444) stands without the article, as in the Greek of Daniel 7:13, and Daniel 7:14 in Greek speaks of authority (exousia, G1849) given to Him; the tie is clear and close in wording. Jesus has just said the Father "has assigned all judgment to the Son, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father" (5:22-23). The figure of Daniel's vision stands before them in human flesh, and the judgment entrusted to Him is not first a threat: "whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment" (5:24). The Judge is the Giver of life.
