A Psalm of David. The LORD said to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet."
"But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God" (Acts 7:55). At the moment of his rejection, Stephen is granted what Isaiah received in the temple — a vision of the enthroned glory of God (Isaiah 6:1) — but now the glory is shared: Jesus stands at God's right hand. What Isaiah saw as "the Lord... high and exalted" John identifies as the glory of Christ (John 12:41), and Stephen beholds it directly. The vision answers his whole argument: God's glory is not shut inside the temple his accusers defend but blazes open to the martyr full of the Spirit, and at its center stands the rejected Righteous One, exalted. Here the vault's life verse is enacted — a face turned toward the unveiled glory of the Lord and transformed into his image even as the stones fly (2 Corinthians 3:18): beholding become the martyr's becoming.
