No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be within the city, and His servants will worship Him. They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night in the city, and they will have no need for the light of a lamp or of the sun. For the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever.
God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth."
Significance
The canon closes on the Adamic commission completely fulfilled. The Eden imagery cluster — the river of life, the tree of life, the throne of God and the Lamb, and the removal of "any curse" (reversing Gen 3:17-19) — frames the saints who "will reign forever and ever," the dominion / rule (rādâ) clause of Genesis 1:28 realized at last in cosmic scope. Eden has expanded to fill the whole new creation, exactly as the commission to fill and subdue the earth always intended; the priest-kings serve and behold God's face while reigning over the consummated cosmos. The canon's final vision is the canon's first command, brought to its goal: where the first Adam lost dominion under the curse, the redeemed in the Last Adam exercise it endlessly under unmediated divine presence. Per the ATN §4 this is the blueprint/prototype use — Genesis 1-2 as the template for Revelation 21-22's consummation — functioning as the consummative typological fulfillment of the Adamic commission.
