Earlier text
Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Moses was unable to enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
In 1 Kings 8:10-11, "the cloud filled the house of the LORD so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD (כְּבוֹד יְהוָה, kevod YHWH) filled the house of the LORD." This deliberately echoes Exodus 40:34-35, where "the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle," so that "Moses was unable to enter the Tent of Meeting." The verbal parallel is a designed echo — 1 Kings 8:11 shares with Exodus 40:35 the cloud, the glory of the LORD filling the sanctuary, and the minister shut out by it, a collocation that recurs only in the Chronicles parallel of the same dedication (2 Chronicles 5:14) — and the structural parallel is exact: cloud fills sacred space, glory of the LORD fills the structure, and the human minister cannot continue. This echo confirms that Solomon's temple receives the same divine legitimation as Moses' tabernacle — God takes up residence in the new permanent structure just as He did in the portable one.
