2 Samuel 5:6BSB
Now the king and his men marched to Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the land. The Jebusites said to David: "You will never get in here. Even the blind and lame can repel you." For they thought, "David cannot get in here."
Both texts record David's march against the Jebusites to capture Jerusalem, called יְבוּס (Yevus) in both accounts. 2 Samuel 5:6 preserves the Jebusites' taunt, "Even the blind and lame can repel you," while 1 Chronicles 11:4 identifies the site simply as "Jerusalem (that is, Jebus)." The Chronicler omits the taunt about the blind and lame but adds the detail that "Joab son of Zeruiah went up first" and was therefore made commander — information absent from Samuel. This editorial choice shifts focus from the Jebusites' defiance to the military achievement of David's men, consistent with the Chronicler's interest in establishing the meritorious basis for administrative appointments.
