Context: Revelation 19:7-9 announces the consummation: "Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him the glory. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. She was given clothing of fine linen, bright and pure... Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb." Revelation 21:2, 9 pictures the bride: "I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." An angel says: "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb."

OT-to-OT Development

  • The marriage feast is the ultimate fulfillment of the bridal theme anchored in Genesis 2:24 and promised through the prophets (Isa 54:5-8; 62:5)—the bride finally comes to the bridegroom's home forever. Genesis 24's betrothal is one narrative node in that theme, not its type.
  • The "new Jerusalem" as bride fulfills Isaiah 54 (barren Zion becomes fruitful), Isaiah 62:5 ("as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you").
  • The "fine linen" (Rev 19:8) echoes the priest's garments and the tabernacle coverings—the bride is both temple and priesthood.

Connections

  • TO OT: Genesis 2:24 (one-flesh union, the theme's anchor), Genesis 24 (bride sought for son, a narrative node in the theme), Isaiah 54:5-8 (YHWH as husband), Isaiah 62:4-5 (Zion married), Isaiah 61:10 (garments of salvation)
  • FROM REVELATION: Revelation 22:17 (Spirit and Bride say "Come"), Revelation 21:3 (God dwells with man)
  • NT PARALLELS: Ephesians 5:25-32 (Christ and church), 2 Corinthians 11:2 (presented as pure virgin)

Christological Connection: The marriage of the Lamb consummates the bridal theme that runs from Genesis 2:24 through the prophets to Christ and the church. Genesis 24 is often read beside it, but as illustration: the traditional bride-for-the-Son typology of Genesis 24 is declined (see TT 127), and the parallels below are offered only as analogy. (1) The Marriage Has Come: "The marriage of the Lamb has come" (19:7). Isaac and Rebekah were united after the servant's journey, her consent, and the long travel. In a far greater way, after redemptive history's long journey, Christ and His bride are finally wed. (2) Bride Made Herself Ready: "His bride has made herself ready" (19:7). Rebekah prepared for her journey. The church through history prepares through sanctification. Yet the text says, "She was given clothing of fine linen" (19:8)—preparation is grace. (3) Marriage Supper: "Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper" (19:9). The feast itself is now spread. Gospel invitation: come to the wedding. (4) Adorned for Her Husband: "Prepared as a bride adorned (κεκοσμημένην) for her husband" (21:2). The servant gave Rebekah jewels; Christ adorns His bride with glory. She descends from heaven—she is heavenly, not earthly in origin. (5) Bride = City = Dwelling: The bride IS the new Jerusalem. "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man" (21:3). The patriarchs' tents give way to the eternal city. The bride and bridegroom dwell together forever—comfort, love, no more death (21:4).

Connection Method(s): Promise-Fulfillment; Longitudinal Theme — The marriage of the Lamb consummates what the prophets promised (Isa 54:5-8; 62:5) and what the one-flesh ordinance of Genesis 2:24 pointed to (Eph 5:31-32), bringing the marriage/bride theme to eschatological fulfillment as the Bride-City descends adorned for her husband. Typology from Genesis 24 is not claimed.
