Genesis 1:1BSB
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Isaiah 65:17 declares "I will create (בּוֹרֵא, bore) new heavens and a new earth (שָׁמַיִם חֲדָשִׁים וָאָרֶץ חֲדָשָׁה)," deliberately echoing Genesis 1:1's "In the beginning God created (בָּרָא, bara) the heavens and the earth (הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֵת הָאָרֶץ)." The same verb בָּרָא and the same paired nouns "heavens and earth" make the connection unmistakable. A quieter lexical link runs beneath the verb: Genesis 1:1 opens with רֵאשִׁית (reshith, "beginning," H7225), and Isaiah 65:17 closes with הָרִאשֹׁנוֹת (harishonot, "the former things," H7223), both built on the root ראשׁ ("head, first") — so the new creation answers the first "beginning" by consigning the "former things" to oblivion. Isaiah declares that the Creator's work is not finished — the God who made the first heavens and earth will make new ones, and "The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind." This is not renovation but new creation: the same divine creative power that called the cosmos into existence at the beginning will produce an entirely new cosmic order.
