Job 1

Job 1 - 1

A certain man There was in the land Uz, Job was the name to him. And was the that man true, unblemished, a man sincere, and upright, and fearing the God, at a distance from every wicked thing.

Job 1 - 2

And there were to him sons seven and daughters three.

Job 1 - 3

And were the his animals sheep seven thousand, camels three thousand, teams of oxen five hundred, and donkeys female grazing five hundred, and for service many exceedingly, and works great there were of his upon the land. And was that man great of the ones from sun east.

Job 1 - 4

going And his sons to one another prepared a banquet, each his own day, taking along together also the three sisters their to eat and to drink with them.

Job 1 - 5

whenever they completed the days of the banquet, Job sent and purified them, rising up in the morning, and offering for them a sacrifice according to their number. said For Job, Lest at any time they sinned and raved against God with their heart my sons. Thus then Job did all the days.

Job 1 - 6

And it came to pass this day, and behold, came the sons of the God to stand before the lord, and the devil came in the midst of them.

Job 1 - 7

And said the lord to the devil, From what place have you come? And answered the devil to the lord, and said, Going around the earth, and walking about the under heaven, place at hand.

Job 1 - 8

And said to him the lord, Have you been attentive then in your consideration to my attendant Job, that there is none likened to him of the ones upon the earth, a man blameless, a man sincere and upright and fearing the God, at a distance from every wicked thing?

Job 1 - 9

answered And the devil, and said, Before the lord, does Job freely fear the God?

Job 1 - 10

Have you not enclosed him, and the things inside his household, and the things outside? And all of the things being to him round about— the works of his hands you blessed, and the cattle many you made upon the earth.

Job 1 - 11

But send your hand, and touch all which he has, and assuredly in your face he will rave against you.

Job 1 - 12

Then said the lord to the devil, Behold, all as much as is his I put into your hand; but he himself you shall not touch. And went forth the devil from the lord.

Job 1 - 13

And it was on this day the sons of Job and his daughters were drinking wine in the house of their brother the elder.

Job 1 - 14

And behold, a messenger came to Job, and said to him, The teams of the oxen were plowing, and the female donkeys were grazing next to them.

Job 1 - 15

And Sabeans fell upon and captured them, and the servants they killed by swords. escaped And I alone, and I came to report to you.

Job 1 - 16

Yet this speaking, there came another, and said to Job, Fire from the God fell from out of the heaven, and it incinerated the sheep; and the shepherds were devoured up in like manner; and having escaped, I alone came to report to you.

Job 1 - 17

While this speaking, there came another messenger, and said to Job, The Chaldeans put three companies, and encircled the camels, and captured them; and the servants they killed by swords, I escaped and I alone, and I came to report to you.

Job 1 - 18

While this one was speaking, another messenger came, saying to Job, your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking with their brother the elder.

Job 1 - 19

Suddenly wind a great came upon them from out of the wilderness, and it touched the four corners of their house, and fell the house upon your children, and they came to an end; I escaped and I alone, and I came to report to you.

Job 1 - 20

Thus rising up, Job tore up his garments, and sheared the hair of his head, and falling to the ground he did obeisance.

Job 1 - 21

And said, I myself naked came forth from out of the belly of my mother, and naked I shall go forth there. The lord gave, the lord removed, as to the lord it seemed good, so also it came to pass. May be the name of the lord blessed.

Job 1 - 22

In all these things the coming to pass against him, in nothing Job sinned before the lord, and he imputed not folly to God.
